X-Wing Fighter by taerkitty X-Wing Fighter by taerkitty
8.5" square. Frog base. Model is approximately 3" long, 4" wide. This isn't a very good shot of it, the engines are supposed to be round. Designing the engines with some sense of volume made me happy.

I also like how the wings are 'swept forward' - the leading edge is perpendicular to the body line, instead of trailing away. Scale is still pretty off.

This one is a pretty easy model. I've been making frog-base X-wings since I saw the film, but only recently did I realize the advantage of actually MISSING the vertex. In my opinion, the nose of the fighter looks better with the folds not coming to a single tapered point.

That, coupled with the already-mentioned perpendicular sweep of the wing's leading edge and the near-cylindrical shape of the engines make this one new enough to feel good sharing.

For its "other half", I created an origami T.I.E. Fighter ([link]).

I have an animated GIF howto in my scraps that shows the folds. I'm working on a huge photo collage with pre-decaled paper, but going's slow.

I can't find a good way to diagram it, but I posted a triptych of animated GIFs to show how I folded it.

(They're in my scrapyard because Papercraft doesn't allow animated GIFs.)

Thank you all for being so supportive!

You're welcome and thanks, but I can no longer enter that contest since I'm out of high school. I'm on to bigger and better things, and I hope the same for you!

I'll ping you when I post a real how-to diagram. The animated gif isn't as clear as I'd like.

Much thanks. Episode IV had much simpler ships - X, hexagons, spheres and triangles. There's no way I can see making one of the Mon Calimari vessels.

Much thanks. This is as close to 'classical' origami as I do: square paper, no cuts, no crumples.

Thank you! I like this model - I can turn one out in under 30 minutes, and it's not as demanding or requiring heavy investment so I am happy to give it away afterwards.
